Outreach
"Evangelism is the heartbeat of God" - Dr. Steve
Davis
Praise is
important. Worship is going to be practiced by the saints in Heaven for
eternity. But
evangelism is the number one priority for the Church of Jesus Christ. We
know that the earth and all that is in it will be destroyed on that last
day, and the ONLY thing we can take with us to
Heaven are the souls we've reached for the Lord.
Ministry of Outreach & Evangelism
We encourage all members of the body of
Christ to operate in their giftings, both individually and collectively.
We seek to
help members to use those giftings to fulfill Christ’s Commission to “Go
into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:
15) and to reach the people entrusted to them, by God, to reach.
Outreach and missions is by no means a mere over land and seas issue,
the life of a missionary is one that we are to live out everyday. The
goal of the Ministry of Outreach & Evangelism is to encourage members to
take
on that lifestyle by getting them plugged into regular local outreach
opportunities.
Here is just some of what we do...
Harvest
Program: Each week, food stuffs
are donated from local food companies to The Worship Center church.
This food is distributed biweekly in local neighborhoods and is
primarily given to the working poor. This food distribution has quickly
become a way to not only feed people’s bodies, but their souls as well.
It is means of
evangelism, a way to become familiar with people & families week to week
and an open door to become involved in their lives. People are getting
saved, lives are changing, and our church family is growing.
The
Harvest Program
also benefits that
outreach efforts put forth from the Christian Education Department such
as Vacation Bible School, Back to School Rally, Hallelujah Night, Movie
Nights etc… All of our kids come out to these fantastic events and
invite their friends and family too! It’s a great and easy way for these
young kids to introduce their friends to the Lord!
We always welcome
people to come and help with our weekly food outreaches! We all are
equipped and able to reach out! If you’re a Christian, you’re qualified!
Call us at the office 301-375-8655 to volunteer! WE WANT YOU!
Clothing Closet:
In an effort to reach as many people for Christ as possible, we use many
different means of evangelism. We are constantly gathering clothes,
shoes, and house goods and we distribute these throughout the local
neighborhoods to those in need. It’s been a great help to many people
who couldn’t otherwise afford it.
Mentoring:
Guiding the Future.
Our community is a growing
one! Schools are packed with kids and it can be easy to get lost in the
crowd. Many kids don’t feel like they are being heard, let alone
helped.
At the beginning
of last school year, General Smallwood Middle School instituted a
mentoring program as a solution to this problem. We participate in this
program. Mentoring is a powerful way to share the love and wisdom
Christ has given us. It helps fill the void that teachers and parents
may often overlook, and is a way that we can reach out to those that may
often not know exactly how to ask for it. Please call 301-375-8655 and
ask for Melissa if interested!
Literature:
Sometimes you don’t always
know what words to say when you’re witnessing. That's why we provide
lots of tracts that are free for you to take and use , as well as
literature we’ve created on efficient and effective tract witnessing
techniques. All you have to do is ask!
Internet
Evangelism: Internet
Evangelism is the new "door-to-door". It’s an effective way to reach
countless souls with the life-changing gospel of Jesus Christ.

Mission Teams: The Worship Center's Outreach &
Evangelism Ministry also regularly sponsors
mission teams to work in our community and the DC area.
They hear about all
the great things we’ve been doing and they wanted to be a part of God’s
great work here.
Whether it's handing out food and clothing,
witnessing in SEDC, painting or otherwise, the teams that come through
always enjoy themselves and learn a lot too.
If you're interested in bringing a team to reach out
to the DC area, or you just want to catch a little of that Worship
Center fire, give us a call at 301-375-8655.
Hitting the Streets: Our Director of Outreach
& Evangelism, Melissa Davis, first started volunteering with
Urban Outreach in SEDC when
she was 18 and still does today. Our church's youth group & 20
Somethings group love going to help hand out food, witness to people,
help lead praise and worship, pray with people, preach a little and
learn a lot!
Our church also takes outreach teams regularly to
So Others Might Eat and to
The Catherine Foundation
Crisis Pregnancy Care Center.

Outreach through Community Involvement
We place an emphasis
on both local and international missions and outreach. As individuals,
we are challenged to reach our friends, co-workers and neighbors with
the Gospel. As a church, we also have a responsibility to our community
and to our country.

One arm of outreach in the
community is carried out by our Projects Ministry. The Projects
Ministry keeps us involved as salt and light in our community. We have
been involved with The United Way, Habitat for Humanity, Jerry's
Kids, Christmas in April, The Catherine Foundation Pregnancy Care
Center, and Lifestyles of Southern Maryland, as well as other
community projects.

Weddings are an Open Door
The Worship
Center is
also the site for numerous weddings of both members and non-members.
Many times, couples aren't involved
in a church, but they want to get
married. It is common for ministers to only marry couples who are
members of their church. This leaves few opportunities for couples who
want God to bless their union, but who don't yet have a church home. Our
Pastors perform weddings for members of the community both
at the church and also offsite - as a means of bringing the presence of
God to people who are at a time of their lives where they are thinking
about the major issues of life. At The Worship Center, they find
not only an easily accessible facility, but an open door for becoming
part of a caring and supportive church family.
Media Outreach
We have a very active
ministry through our Cassette and E-book ministries. Our cassette
teaching ministries by Dr. Steve and Rev. McCoy reach not only those who
personally attend The Worship Center, but those who discover them
on the Internet as a means of receiving hard hitting and rock solid
teaching. We have only recently begun developing and producing materials
in E-book format. This makes our resources available to a wider audience
and at a rate of speed that is astounding.
E-books can be read
online or offline, and are totally searchable and printable. They can be
bought online and
downloaded worldwide twenty-four hours a
day. One benefit to those who have trouble reading smaller print is that
the E-books can be displayed onscreen at the most convenient size to the
reader. Keep checking our Books and Tapes pages for new E-books
and Cassette programs.
