BEING A GOOD LISTENER TO THE HOLY SPIRIT: PART 2

Prayer Requests

When you listen to God, your faith level grows. The Bible says in Romans 10:17 that “faith comes from hearing and hearing by the Word of God.” When the Word of God comes, faith comes. You have to LISTEN if you want faith, then, when faith comes, you have to ACT on what God is saying. If you don’t listen to God, you’ll never have enough faith to do anything for Him and that’s why some Christians can’t believe God for ANYTHING. They don’t listen to Him when they read the Word and God has chosen to bestow or give His blessings by faith to those who BELIEVE Him. Faith is the means that God uses to bless you and when you release your faith, it sets into motion the forces that bring your blessing.

You can get your faith “jump-started” by listening to a minister or teacher who listens to God, but ultimately, you have to listen to God for yourself. Be quiet, get alone with God and allow Him to speak to you by His Spirit as you mediate on His Word. In the Parable of the Sower in Luke 8:15, the only kind of soil, or heart that listened to what God was saying. The reason is that bearing fruit only comes as you get spiritual understanding – which comes as from hearing. See, your faith never rises above the level of your understanding; and your understanding never rises above the level of what you’re hearing by the Spirit of God. Listening to what God is saying is the only way to keep from becoming a “shipwreck”. 1 Timothy 1:19, “holding faith and a good conscience; which some having put away, concerning faith, have made shipwreck.”

You can have a good conscience, but not be walking by faith. You have to keep a good conscience AND walk in faith. Hebrews 2:1-2 God says to pay more attention to what He has said to us and not to let what He said slip away, otherwise, we’ll drift away and end up neglecting our salvation and not listening to the Spirit of God is the first step to slipping away from Him. Listening to what God says and then ACTING on it will put you in the place where the promises are working for you and that’s what Hebrews 4:2 is about. The Children of Israel heard what God was saying but they didn’t act on what He said. You have to act on what God says. They ended up dying in the wilderness, in a place that was wild, unruly and desolate. Children of God who didn’t enter in because of their DISBELIEF.

Hebrews 4:6 says, “They to whom it was first preached entered not in because of UNBELIEF.” There wasn’t anything wrong with what was being preached to them, it was that they heard it but wouldn’t believe it. That’s what kept them out of the Land of Promise and they fell short of entering in. James 1:22-25 says that we have to be DOERS of the Word, not just hearers only. Just being a hearer but not a doer is self-deception. Then he says, “The doer shall be blessed in his deed.” The person who hears what God says and acts on it SHALL BE BLESSED in his deeds. That’s what I want for you, to be blessed in your deeds. What do YOU want? Listen, believe, act and be blessed by God!
