BLESSINGS YOU DIDN'T KNOW YOU HAD

Prayer Requests

Being in the time that we’re all in right now, I feel this is a great opportunity to talk about the various gifts, presents and blessings God has instore for us. Now, when my children were younger, they would often times ask for gifts that they already had and forgetting that we got it for them. That’s how many Christians are with God. We’re miserable because we sometimes think that He hasn’t blessed us enough and we cry out that we’re weak, unsuccessful, broke and helpless. In Ephesians 1:3, “Blessed be the Gpd and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in Heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” According to the Bible, all of Heaven’s blessings are yours if you’re an obedient Believer. The Bible says that we’re blessed in Christ Jesus. Romans says, “As in Adam all die, so in Christ shall all be made alive.” There are only two places that you can be as far as God is concerned. You’re either in Adam or in Christ, either in the natural or in the Spirit.

Everybody is born into the world, is in Adam and everybody born again is in Christ. When you’re in Adam, in the natural, you want to sin and live for your flesh. It’s not a matter of just getting into the right church, or training your natural self to “behave”. It’s a matter of getting born by the Spirit of God into Christ Jesus. See, the blessings of God are not in Adam, the blessings are in Jesus. As in Adam, all die and all your dreams, hopes and aspirations will die. Everything you hold dear will die if you just live in the natural as a part of Adam’s race. In Christ, all will be made alive and God will resurrect your life and your dreams, your health and your hopes. He’ll bless you if you’re in Christ Jesus.

In 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore if anybody, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away; and behold, all things have become new.” When you’re born again by the Spirit of God, you’re in Christ. The main thing you need in life is to be in Christ because all the blessings, all the promises are for those who are in Christ. Many Christians go from church to church looking for the blessing of God. They need to stand firm in it, instead of chasing after it. Like the Bible says, you stand and let the blessing if God overtake you! You’ve got to open your Bible and read it. Feed your spirit on it and a lot of people do without the blessings of God. There are more than 7,000 promises in the Word of God for the person in Christ. He’s got blessings in every area of life, but you’ll never get them unless you know they’re yours.

John DeMoe won one of those “free” cruises you see coupons for in local restaurants. All he had to do was make this way to Florida to get on board. Taking off work for a week and then driving to Florida took all his money and he barely got there and was broke. John DeMoe didn’t know much about cruises and he’d just won the ticket. Knowing he was spending his last dime to get to Florida, he figured he’d never be able to afford the meals on board or to go to the shows each night. So, John DeMoe brought along his portable black and white TV, a big jar of peanut butter and two loaves of bread so he wouldn’t starve.

So, he got on board with his TV, his peanut butter and loaves of bread. While he was on his cruise, he would notice all the other people going to the dining room and he’d look through the window and they had steaks, shrimp, fruit and veggies, amazing deserts and all ate like kings. He’d look through the window and think, “Man, I wish I had enough money for that!” Then, he’d go sit in a chair on the deck and eat his peanut butter sandwiches. This went in daily and he was tired of peanut butter sandwiches. On the last evening of the cruise, a fellow passenger saw John DeMoe sitting on deck eating peanut butter as the other man was about to go into the dining room. He said, “What are you doing eating peanut butter when there’s a banquet inside?” John DeMoe answered, “I’m embarrassed to tell you. But I just barely had enough money to get to this cruise and I didn’t have any money left over for entertainment or meals so I bought my little TV and this peanut butter all week!” The passenger said, “Don’t you know anything about cruises? When you got your ticket, it included everything!”

That’s the way many Christians are, like John DeMoe, we don’t know enough of the Bible to know that Jesus paid it all when He died for you on Calvary. Our ticket includes everything and we’re out here eating our peanut butter sandwiches and we need to throw away our peanut butter and come on into God’s big banquet table. Psalm 1 talks about the blessed person. “Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly nor stands in the way of sinners nor sits in the seat of then scornful but his delight is in the law if the Lord.” Why is the blessed person delighting in God’s law? Your Bible contains God’s spiritual laws of how His Kingdom operates and the blessed person’s delight is in the law of the Lord. The blessed person wants to know how God expects him to live, believe and pray.

When a person has a will and then dies, his or her goods are distributed to the loved ones, according to the will. The will gets read and usually in big estates, where what’s left is valuable, other people come in and contest the will. They argue with it and they don’t want you to receive what’s been left to you. The Bible’s the same way. It’s God’s will and Jesus died and left us His Testament and every time you find a promise in it, or something that Jesus died and left to you, the devil will come up and say, “I contest that. You can’t receive that. You’re not worthy and I want it!” So, you need a powerful lawyer and a good judge. The Bible says that Jesus is your judge and trust them. When the devil comes into the courtroom and sees that your Elder brother is your lawyer and the judge is your Father, he knows he’d better back off! Trust God!

Verse 2 goes on to say, in God’s law the blessed person meditates and he meditates therein day and night. Because of that, the Word of God, the Bible, gets into his heart and begins to direct his paths. Therefore, he shall be like a tree planted…” We’re like a tree planted and thank God we’re not drifting. We’re planted and planted by rivers of living water and we bring forth our fruit in our season and our leaf also shall not wither and whatsoever we do shall prosper. Galatians 3:13-14, “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law…that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles (that’s us) through Jesus Christ and that we might receive the promise of the Spirit by faith.”

See, Christ took our curse so that the blessing of Abraham might come upon us and I don’t know about you, but I want the blessing to come. I think about how blessed our congregation is and God wants you to get out from under the curse and under the blessing. He said His will is that the blessing of Abraham might come on us. The curse and the blessing are listed in Deuteronomy 28 and it says that if you diligently listen to what God says, and then act on it, He will cause His blessings to come upon you and overtake you. The blessings, all the blessings of Heaven are already yours. You say, why don’t I have them? You might not have known about them or, you might not have believed them. Maybe, you knew and believed but never ACTED on them. You’ve got to act on the Word of God.

The greatest blessing in the world that anybody could have is not financial or even goof health. The greatest blessing in the world is not a physical blessing and the greatest blessing in the world is when the Spirit of God comes into your heart; when you’re born again and Jesus becomes your Lord. That makes you ready not only for life but also for death. I want you to receive Jesus today into your heart as your Lord and Savior and pray the prayer of Salvation.
