PROMOTION, NOT DEMOTION, COMETH FROM THE LORD

Prayer Requests

Somewhere along the line, we’ve gotten the idea that when a person serves God that, it means they’re going to be poor, barely making it and just scraping by. This idea didn’t come from the Bible, it came from worldly and traditional religious thinking. We’ve been told by the world that Christians ought to be on the bottom, broke, down and out. But, what does the Bible say?

Jesus said this about the kinds of things we have need of: “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you. (Mat. 6:33).” Psalm 75:6-7 says, “For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west nor from the south. But God is the judge: He putteth down one and setteth up another.” In other words, promotion comes from the Lord. So, how do you get to be one whom God will promote? First off, you don’t go around being a self-promoter. That isn’t where promotion comes from. Second, you don’t wait around for other people to notice you and promote you. That also isn’t where promotion comes from. You can’t expect God to decide to send you a harvest in some place where you haven’t planted one.

This is where the principle of sowing and reaping comes in. God blesses the seed that you actually SLOW (2 Cor. 9:5). You have to sow the seeds of the crop you want. You can’t expect watermelons if you’re sowing the seeds of crabapples…expecting God to miraculously change them for you. Since you need the support and help of other people, you have to sow the seeds of being helpful and supportive first. Start doing things for other people. It’s not just a principle of sowing and reaping, it’s the part of being like Jesus. It’s also a principle of faith. You’ll have a hard time having the faith for other people to help you if you haven’t been helpful to other people.

Verse 7 says that God is the Judge. He evaluates what you’re doing along with what you’re doing isn’t enough to bring about what you’re expecting, you’ll be disappointed. Based on your sowing, you’ll either increase or decrease. You’ll be put down or set up. One person will be put on a lower level and another will be raised. That’s why you want to be planting seeds with God and man, so you will be a person that God promotes. He does this, “so a man will say, ‘verily there is a reward for the righteous; verify He is a God that judgeth in the earth. (Ps. 58:11)”. And, “He raised the poor out of the dust and lifeth the needy out of the dunghill. (Ps. 113:7).”

Notice where it says in Proverbs 11:31, “Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed upon the earth…” Traditional religious thinking says that the righteous have to wait until they die and go to Heaven, but GOD says that He begins to recompense the righteous here on earth. That’s not what religion says, but that’s what God says.

1 Timothy 4:15 says, “Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them, that thy profiting may appear to all.” In other words, meditate on what God is saying to you through the Bible. Then, give yourself totally to them, holding back nothing. What will the result be? That you will be visibly, measurably doing better. Better enough that everyone will be able to see it. in Hebrews 11:6, “Without faith it is impossible to please him, for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that He is a rewarder of them that do diligently seek Him.” First off, you need faith. “Faith cometh by hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17. Feed on the Word of God and build your faith level.

When an idea or a plan comes to you, and you want to know if it will please God, ask yourself, “Is this in line with the word of God? Does this take faith?” If it doesn’t, it’s just something that any old person walking in the natural could do. It might not displease God, but it won’t make Him proud. It’s when we’re walking by faith that we enter into the spiritual realm. So, for receiving promotion from God, it’s a matter of first of all, coming to God. We must believe that we’re coming to Him and then that He is a Rewarder of them that them that do diligently seek Him. When you act in faith, God is provided with the necessary channel to bless you and reward you. He takes your spiritual substance, your words and your actions and converts them into something real and tangible in this life.

You’ll grow in grace and favor with God and man. You’ll diligently seek the good in every situation and obtain favor. Being full of faith, you’ll be acting in faith more. “Faith without works is dead.” When you ACT more in faith, God has more that He can bless in your life. God multiplies the seed sown and increases the fruit of your righteousness. When God is blessing more, your advancing and your profiting from the word of God becomes more evident to those around you. The joy of the Lord will be manifest in your life because you know He’s at work. With the joy of the Lord, comes strength – “the joy of the Lord is your strength…” With the strength comes power with God and man. With the strength and power comes the boldness that keeps you from being ashamed of “the Gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to all that believe it (Romans 1:16).”

That boldness will affect your praying and your praying will draw people to come to Jesus. When they see your growth and development in life, they’ll ask you what the secret is and you’ll be able to tell them that it isn’t YOU but JESUS on the INSIDE of you that makes the difference. They’ll see your good works and glorify your Father which is in Heaven and that’s the promotion that cometh from the Lord.
